Easy to make too. I made some extras to Fairlight's 5'th birthday coming up in 1½ week. I usually serve 7 kinds of cookies/pastries for birthdays. Is that a swedish thing or do you have the "7-cake-rule" in other countries too??

Having been raised in the US and Canada, I can say that we do not have a 7 cake/cookie rule, however it is tradition to eat as much junk food as possible ;) Popular cakes are regular vanilla or chocolate cake with lots of icing/frosting, and ice cream cake. We also often bake brownies or chocolate chip cookies or other kinds of cookies, and eat lots of snack foods and drink soda/pop or juices. Kids' birthday parties aren't very healthy ;)
ReplyDeleteWe do have a "7-cake-rule" for christmas in Norway, but that's more of an old traditional thing- not many actually follow it anymore :P I don't know if you have it for christmas in Sweden too?
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the birthday-party preparations! ^^
I agree with Lisey on this one. There is normally 1 big cake, at least in the USA. However, for a first birthday there is a small cake for the child to smush their hands in (mainly for getting cute pictures of a dirty kid). It's alot of fun, but I do like the 7-cake idea... interesting comment. The more I hear about Sweden, the more I love it....
ReplyDeletewe don't have the "7-cake-rule" in the Netherlands. on birthdays, we have 1 cake, and we make little snacks, like little pieces of cheese and stuff.
ReplyDeleteIn Poland we don't have '7 cake rule' but it's nice to know about it :D
ReplyDeletein america you get one main cake and then pretty much a whole bunch of junk food. chips, soda, crackers, cookies, sometimes candy, etc.
ReplyDeletehmmm...in Russia we haven't this rule and i'm so upset that here we haven't interesting family-traditions. 7-cake-rule i like. Thank you)
ReplyDeleteHere in Argentina we don't have that rule. In kid's birthdays we use to have a big cake, usually of vainilla or chocolate, with cream and different fillings, like pudding and another thing tipically from our country called "dulce de leche" it's made from milk (you could search for the recipe in google) and we eat little snacks too, sweets as cookies and pastries and salt as Lays and those kind of stuffs :) We don't have an specific number of cakes, we serve as many as we want. Love you Adora!
